Jahmiel Jackson Wins Election to the 46th Ward Executive Committee

Philadelphia, PA — On Tuesday, May 19, Jahmiel won his first election to join the 46th Ward Executive Committee in Philadelphia.

Jackson said he decided to run for the position in early February after recognizing that the 46th Ward has some of the lowest voter turnout numbers in the entire city.

“Young Black men are not in the picture,” Jackson said. “A lot of our young people are growing up in neighborhoods where they cannot envision their future. I wanted to step up because representation matters, outreach matters, and people deserve to feel connected to their community and their government.”

As a newly elected committee member, Jackson says he plans to focus heavily on grassroots engagement, mentorship, neighborhood outreach, and increasing political participation among younger residents.

“Having grassroots support in targeted areas will help make our neighborhoods safer,” Jackson said. “Younger people need to see more representation of themselves in leadership. This role also helps keep me rooted in my neighborhood — hearing directly from neighbors, understanding how to advocate for them, and gaining a closer understanding of the generational experiences people are facing in Philadelphia’s economy.”

Jackson emphasized that the ward represents residents across generations from young adults navigating today’s challenges to seniors who have spent decades in the community.

Another major focus of his work will be neighborhood cleanliness, safety, and rebuilding stronger community relationships.

“It is not normal for children to grow up surrounded by trash and crime,” Jackson said. “We need to become more neighborly again. It is important to know who lives across the street from you and who lives around you. I want to create more opportunities for community engagement and conversations about our elections and our future.”

Jackson also addressed low voter participation among Black men, arguing that many feel disconnected from the current political system.

“A lot of Black men do not vote because our parties do not represent them and many politicians are out of touch,” Jackson said. “I plan on changing that.”

The campaign says Jackson’s work on the Executive Committee will prioritize direct engagement, visibility in the community, and building trust with residents who have historically felt overlooked in local politics.
